Joshua and Hannah lived about six years at Hingham, MA, where their first children were born, 1683-1688. Then they removed about 1689 to Norwich, CT, where their fifth child was born in 1690. They finally settled at Windham, CT, where they had sev
en more children. The first town meeting of Windham was held June11, 1692, when Joshua Ripley was appointed town clerk. He was also town Treasurer. "He was a man widely known and respected, as of sterling sense and judgment; he was one of the firs
t representatives sent by Windham to the General Assembly, appearing there May, 1699." He was also one of the seven pillars or counselors, and justice of the quorum in 1726. His wife was "a noble and useful woman, remarkable not only for intellige
nce and accomplishments, but for her skill in the art of healing. she was the first, and for a long time, the only physician in the settlement, and it is said that the first male physician, Dr. Richard Huntington, received much of his medical know
ledge from her." (From Genealogies of Mayflower Families, 1500's-1800's).
