Samuel BROWNEBorn Mar 1680 Newport, Newport Co., R.I., died Aug 1762 South Kingston, Washington Co., R.I., 82 years, buried Protestant The following information is from The New England Historical and Genealogical Register - 1926, Volume LXXX, which was published by the Society at the Robert Henry Eddy Memorial Rooms, Boston, 1926. !SAMUEL3 BROWN (Jeremiah,2 Chad1), born, probably at Newport, in Mar. 1680, died at South Kingstown in 1762. He married first, at North Kingstown, 22 Oct. 1702, Mary —; and secondly MERCY (CARR) WEEDEN, born at Jamestown 24 Feb. 1698/9, daughter of Edward and Hannah Carr and widow of John Weeden, to whom she was married 20 Dec. 1711. "Samuel Brown resided in that part of Kingstown which later became South Kingstown. On 19 July 1731 he bought of Mary Brayton a large tract of line at East Greenwich, which he divided among his children. In 1757 Caleb Weeden gave a bond to Samuel Brown, signed by Caleb Weeden and by Robert and Phebe Proud, which was to be of no effect if Mercy, wife of Samuel, survived and released her dower. (South Kingston Deeds.) "The will of Samuel Brown, dated 22 June 1757 and proved 16 Aug. 1762, mentions his wife Mercy, her son Caleb Weeden, her son-in-law Robert Proud, his own sons Jeremiah, Samuel, John, Zephaniah, and Daniel Brown, his daughter Sarah, wife of Thomas Peckham, his daughter Freelove, his granddaughter Mary, widow of Christopher Phillips, and his granddaughter Hannah, daughter of Jonas Minturn. 5.
