Born ‎10 Jul 1762, died ‎20 May 1839 Alstead, NH‎, 76 years, buried ‎ Old Cemetery at East Alstead.
They located in Alstead, NH in 1790. He enlisted in the Revolutionary War, May 25, 1776, at South Hadley as a privated in a regiment raised for the defense of Boston. He also enlisted in the Continental Army for three years, 1777-1780, whe n he was
discharged. He saw service in the northern campaign in and around West Point, New York. While a Captain in the Continental Army, Benedict Arnold in a fis of anger, struck him with his sword. Samuel grasped a rifel and would have shot Arnol d on the
spot had he not been prevented from doing do by Samuel's lieutenant.
