Samuel BALL, son of Thomas BALL and Rebecca PARMENTER. Born 10 Jul 1762, died 20 May 1839 Alstead, NH, 76 years, buried Old Cemetery at East Alstead. They located in Alstead, NH in 1790. He enlisted in the Revolutionary War, May 25, 1776, at South Hadley as a privated in a regiment raised for the defense of Boston. He also enlisted in the Continental Army for three years, 1777-1780, whe n he was discharged. He saw service in the northern campaign in and around West Point, New York. While a Captain in the Continental Army, Benedict Arnold in a fis of anger, struck him with his sword. Samuel grasped a rifel and would have shot Arnol d on the spot had he not been prevented from doing do by Samuel's lieutenant. Married 20 Jan 1789 (50 years married) to: Hannah RANGER Born 28 Nov 1764 of Brookfield, died 25 Dec 1852, 88 years, buried Old Cemetery at East Alstead. Children: 1. Joseph BALLBorn 25 Sep 1790 They resided in Acworth, NH, where they were established in 1825. 2. Thomas BALLBorn 4 Mar 1792 Alstead, Cheshire Co., NH, died 16 Nov 1888 Nashua, Hillsbough Co., NH, 96 years, buried SEC04 LOT005 Woodlawn Cemetery He served in the War of 1812 and settled in Acworth, NH. 3. Samuel BALLBorn 31 Jan 1794, died 1 Apr 1862, 68 years They resided in Alstead and Swanzey, NH 4. Hannah BALLBorn 12 May 1796, died 9 Nov 1850, 54 years, buried Died unmarried 5. Rebecca BALLBorn 22 Jul 1800 |
