Seth Beach COLE Born 25 Dec 1820 Prattsburg, Steuben, New York, died 31 Jan 1895 Nyack, Rockland, New York, 74 years, buried 2 Feb 1895 Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack, Rockland, NY. Occupation: Attorney, Judge Note: Taught in Lancaster, New York. M.A. from Union College in Schenectady, New York in 1846. Represented Steuben County in the State Legislature in 1855-56. Admitted to New York Bar in1855 in Brooklyn. A delegate to the first Republican Convention in Philadelphia that nominated John C. Fremont and at the Convention at Chicago that nominated Abraham Lincoln. Moved to Nyack, New York in 1867. Became District Attorney, Judge and Surrogate. In the 1860 census, Seth B. Cole was living in Ward 7W, Brooklyn 2nd District and his age was 39. Also living with him at the time were Annie (probably Anna E.) age 36, born in Vermont, Edward, age 12, born in New York, and Jane Fox, age 20, a servant, born in Ireland. In the 1870 census, living in Orangetown, Nyack post office, Rockland Co. New York were: Seth B. age 49, lawyer, born in New York, who had property valued at $5,000; Anna E., age 46, born in Vermont; Edward H. age 22, a law student, born in NY; Emma F. age 9, born in NY and also Eliza G. French, age 70 born in New Hampshire. In the 1880 census, living in Nyack were Seth B. Cole, age 59, lawyer, born in New York, both of whose parents were born in Conn.; Anna E., age 56, born in Vt., whose father was born in Mass, and mother in New Hampshire and Emma F., age19, daughter, born in NY. He was principal of the Franklin academy, of Prattsburg, for nine years; and was a member of the New York state legislature in 1855-56. In 1860 he was a delegate to the national republican convention from Brooklyn. Since 1867 he has practiced law in Nyack, N. Y., and has been district attorney, judge and surrogate.
